The development history of the technology
In 2000 the founder members of the Image Analyzer development team were commissioned by a major pharmaceutical company to produce a software solution which, as part of a critical Quality Assurance procedure, ensured that the correct quantities of medications were correctly dispensed into various receptacles.
The accuracy of the system was critical as patient health was dependent upon the correct dosages being administered. This major project involved the team in creating a visual analysis system based upon artificial intelligence which could compare the attributes of a ‘real time’ image being scanned against those of a control set. This work involved the creation of a number of specific modules which analysed elements of the picture and used the combined output of the various modules to produce a probability match.
This project was then advanced into the challenge of correctly identifying bodies within pictures and was then specifically targeted at images of a pornographic nature. It is this work and extensive development which Image Analyzer benefits from today.
The target markets for Image Analyzer technology are:
- Managed Service providers
- Email Filtering Gateway Software &
- Hardware Appliance vendors
- Anti Virus vendors
- Policy and Compliance and general content filtering software vendors
- Web filtering software vendors
- ISP’s, Search engine and online storage providers
- Telecommunications Systems integrators & Operators
- IT Equipment manufacturers
How does it work?
The technology utilises a number of proprietary algorithmic based modules to analyse images. Initially the engine eliminates features in the image based upon colour; removing areas of colour which the software understands cannot be associated with skin. This engine allows for regional skin colour variations such as Afro Caribbean, Asian etc. A further module then enhances areas of interest within the image and using edge, curvature and body size algorithms produces a probability output as to whether the image is potentially pornographic.
Thread Safety
The engine is completely thread-safe on all of the supported platforms.
Source Requirements
The engine is capable of scanning images direct from files or preloaded images in the memory. The engine provides functionality to pass file paths and also a memory buffer.
Where can the software be deployed?
Image Analyzer has been specifically developed to integrate into existing IT security software and hardware environments and supports all major operating systems. The software can be deployed at desktop, gateway, server or internet level offering ‘best of breed’ protection quickly and accurately.
What Operating systems does the technology support?
The engine supports Windows 2000 and above operating systems, and many of the popular distributions of Linux as per client request. For the appliance market the engine is built to support FreeBSD V4.10 & 5.4. The Windows engine is available as a Win32 DLL package. On Linux and FreeBSD it is available as both static and dynamic library. The engine does not require any external dependencies. The company is committed to supporting all major OS’s, customised compiles for other operating systems will be delivered subject to client requirement.
