‘Pornography addiction worry’ for tenth of 12 to 13-year-olds

A very shocking study by ChildLine published today highlights the effects of pornography on young people.

Image Analyzer, which provides real time analysis technology that can identify images and videos containing human nudity, has long argued that traditional parental controls are both ineffective and potentially damaging. By taking a primarily censorship approach existing controls can drive tech savvy kids to circumvent and drive the issue underground.

A more positive approach is to use technology to provide parents and guardians with the information they require to initiate a genuine dialogue with their children.

The vast majority of parents would want to be advised that their child was potentially putting themselves at risk by making, appearing in and distributing a pornographic video. The technology exists for them to receive an ‘early warning’ of such risky behaviour – more vendors should be looking to encourage the consultative approach.
